Cayman Airways is a Grand Cayman based airline. It is the national flag carrier of the Cayman region.
It operates international and domestic scheduled passenger carrier, cargo services and a limited charter
service. It operates mainly from Owen Roberts International Airport, Grand Cayman. The company uses the Sir Turtle mascot. The airline started operating in July 1968. It came into being to replace Cayman Brac Airways. In 1977 it was owned wholly by the government. The airline operated domestic scheduled flight services starting from Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman to Gerrard Smith International Airport on Cayman Brac. Earlier, the aircraft operated only with the DC-3 aircrafts.

In the early '70s the airline began international services using a single leased Douglas DC-6 with a service to Miami. In 1976 the airline acquired its first jet aircraft: the BAC 1-11, and started services to other regions in the USA. In order to strengthen the airline's regional and international capability the airline upgraded its aircrafts to include Boeing 727 aircraft in 1982. These aircrafts were finally replaced with the Boeing 737-200's. Throughout the early 1990s the airline struggled to stand on its feet. Later financial aid from the government, financial re-structuring of a new fleet and inclusion of new destinations such as Chicago, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Havana went a long way in helping the airline.
Cayman Airways has a fleet size of 7 to cover 13 major destinations. This airline major was fathered by the Cayman Airways Holdings Ltd.
